African Grey Parrot*

Psittacus Erithacus Erithacus
The African grey parrot is recognizable by its dark grey feathers along its back and wings, a light grey vent, and red tail.
They inhabit tropical rainforests of western equatorial Africa where their range overlaps that of the African oil palm which makes up a large portion of its diet.
Captive parrots have been used to show the intelligence of this species by means of problem solving, leading to the belief that they have the mentality of a three year old child.
Even though their numbers in the wild are high and they are listed by the IUCN as a species of least concern, grey parrots are still threatened by overexploitation for the pet trade and loss of habitat due to deforestation.
