Bald Eagle
- Haliaeetus leucocephalus
- Adult bald eagles weigh between 6 and 8 pounds. They measure 27 to 45 inches tall and have a wingspan of 6 to 8 feet.
- After becoming an adult, typically at four years of age, the feathers on the head and tail change to the characteristic white color.
- They are found throughout North America. They can be seen from Alaska and Canada to Florida.
- In the wild, their diet consists primarily of fish. They will also eat muskrats, ducks, other water birds, turtles, and carrion as well.
- Bald eagles were removed from the Endangered Species List in early 1998. They are still protected and listed as a CITES I species.
