Barred Owl
- Strix Varia
- Barred owls reside in tree cavities of coniferous forests near water sources across most of North America.
- They are easily recognizable by their signature "Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you-all?" call.
- Owls are expert nocturnal hunters because they have excellent low-light vision and asymmetrical ears that help them localize sounds made by prey.
- Barred owls are monogamous and pair for a lifespan averaging 8-10 years.
- They are protected under the Migratory Bird Act.
