Black-eared Marmoset
- Callithrix Penicillata
- Black-eared marmosets live in the rainforests of Brazil, usually residing high in the trees, under the canopy.
- They are characterized by the black tufts around their ears. Typically they have white hairs on their faces, with a dark brown or black head. Their upper bodies are gray and their backsides are usually black. The undersides are black with a gray abdomen. Their tail is ringed with black and white and is used for balance.
- Black-eared marmosets are monogamous and typically live with their offspring. Infants are extremely dependent on their parents. The offspring are raised with the aid of other juvenile siblings.
- Black-eared marmosets are diurnal, meaning they are active during the day.
- Their primary diet in the wild is gum tree sap. In the zoo they eat fruit and crickets.
