Demoiselle Crane
- Anthropoides Virgo
- At just three feet tall, the Demoiselle crane is the smallest species of crane
- This bird is silvery gray with a long white neck stripe and black on the fore neck that extends down over the chest.
- Summer breeding grounds are found in central Asia while they migrate to Africa and southern Asia during the winter months.
- They arrive at the breeding grounds in late April at which point a nest is formed on the ground encircled by parts of plants, stones, dirt clumps, and dry cattle droppings.
- Both parents share all duties equally caring for egg clutches that usually consist of 1-2 eggs, and rarely 3 eggs.
