Eastern Screech Owl*

Otus Asio
This small owl is recognizable by its large tufted ears and its variable color morph of either red or gray.
They inhabit woodlands bordering clear open fields for hunting across the United States.
Screech owls begin nesting in March in natural trees cavities; females lay 3-7 eggs that hatch after an incubation of about 25 days.
Owls are expert nocturnal hunters because they have excellent low-light vision and asymmetrical ears that help them localize sounds made by prey.
They are protected under the Migratory Bird Act.
