Golden Conure

Aratinga guarouba
The golden conure is considered to be the largest of all conures.
They prefer upland areas of dry rainforest that protect them from floods.
Their diet consists of exotic fruits, flowers, buds, and assorted seeds.
They are very playful and family oriented and will often assist in the raising of young from other birds.
The golden conure is endangered, due to deforestation and illegal cage bird trade. Listed in Appendix l of CITES. The long-term survival of the species will depend on protecting suitable habitat in Brazil.

Location at Palm Beach Zoo

  • Between the scarlet macaws and sloth exhibit on the west side of the Zoo.
