Helmeted Guinea Fowl*

Numida Meleagris
A stout game bird, the helmeted guinea fowl is covered with black feathers that are speckled white with a bare blue head and a bony cap that protrudes from the skull.
They are the most widely distributed of all the African guinea fowl and have been domesticated for centuries.
Occurring in large flocks, these birds can be seen scratching at the ground for beetles, ticks, seeds, and other insect prey.
Females will make a hidden nest to deposit 20-30 eggs, caring for them unless disturbed, in which case the mother will usually abandon the nest.
