The jaguar is the largest cat in the Americas, weighing up to 250 lbs (record weight over 347 lbs.).
Jaguars live in deserts, marshes and mountains, as well as the rainforest areas extending from central Mexico south to the central areas of Argentina. Jaguars used to live in every American country except Canada.
Their diet includes capybara and peccary. They may also eat tapir, birds, crocodilians, snakes, small mammals and fish.
The threats to the jaguar include habitat loss, hunting, and the alteration of their habitat by humans for development.
