Pink-toed tarantula
- Avicularia avicularia
- As adults, the pink-toed tarantulas are fairly dark in color overall with pink "toes." As newborns, their bodies are black and the legs are pink with black tips.
- Fully grown, females can measure 5 inches long and males 3.5 inches.
- In the wild, pink-toed tarantulas may eat winged insects, tree frogs or even an occasional roosting bird.
- Pink-toes are a widespread species that range all over northern South America and the southern Caribbean.
- The Pink-toed tarantulas live in low lying areas with many hiding spots and broad-leaved plants. They are one of the only tarantula species that colonize with others.
