Red-bellied Lemur

Eulemur Rubriventer
Males of this medium sized lemur have a distinguishable red chest and white under their eyes, while females have white chests.
Lemur means "ghost" in Malagasy, the native language of Madagascar the fourth largest island in the world.
This diurnal species spends much of its social time grooming using a comb in their lower jaw that is formed by the six fused incisors.
Red-bellied lemurs are one of the few lemur species that form monogamous pairs that both care for the 1-2 offspring born after a 127 day gestation.
All species of lemur are considered endangered because of the explosive population and deforestation of Madagascar.
