Red-legged Seriema*

Cariama Cristata
Being a relative of storks and rails, these birds stand about three feet tall on long red legs.
Seriemas are found in open savannahs and sparsely wooded areas in central and eastern Brazil south to Argentina.
They are omnivorous but feed mainly on animal matter, including insects, lizards, snakes, rodents, frogs, and birds.
To kill large prey, seriemas will slam it against a rock or the ground and then rip it apart with their sharp claws.
Locally common throughout its vast range the red-legged seriema is classified by the IUCN as a species of least concern.
