- These brightly colored dome-shelled tortoises reach lengths of 12-16 inches.
- They inhabit tropical forests and moist grasslands of South America.
- The South American red-footed tortoise's diet consists of mainly fallen fruit, mushrooms, various leafy greens, insects, and even carrion.
- They are protected under Appendix II of The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) which means that their international trade is regulated and limited.
