Virginia Opossum

Didelphis Virginiana
The Virginia opossum is the only marsupial native to North America ranging from Mexico to Canada.
Large specimens can reach 14 pounds and lengths of three feet including their prehensile tail.
Birth occurs 12-14 days after copulation with litters averaging 7-9 offspring that remain in the fur-lined pouch until they reach about 100 days old.
Most opossums do not live past 18 months; the oldest known specimen in the wild lived to be 3 years old.
